Who we are and what we do
Up in the Arctic is a small, independently run guiding company based in Målselv kommune in Northern Norway — created for travellers seeking a quieter, more personal way to experience the Arctic wilderness.
Founded by a local guide with a background in geology and a lifetime spent outdoors, the company is rooted in deep knowledge of the land and a strong respect for wildlife. Growing up close to nature, in a family shaped by traditional moose hunting and outdoor life, formed a guiding philosophy built on patience, ethics, and genuine connection to the wilderness.
Rather than large group tourism, Up in the Arctic offers private experiences designed for small groups, couples, and families. Each journey — from searching for wild moose in the Målselv valleys to hiking through Øvre Dividal National Park — is guided at a natural pace, allowing space to observe, learn, and truly feel the landscape.
The approach is simple: authentic encounters, local insight, and minimal impact on the environment. And of course: ethical wildlife viewing. Wildlife is met on its own terms, and every experience reflects a belief that the Arctic should be explored with humility and care.
Up in the Arctic exists to share the silence, the stories, and the raw beauty of Northern Norway — not as a spectacle, but as something real and deeply personal.
